Question Asked by Atheists: Why Doesn’t God Heal Amputees?

A couple of days ago, someone (an Atheist) asked me this question; Why doesn’t God heal amputees? Of course, it really wasn’t being asked in order to find an answer. It was one of those ‘Let’s stump the Christian’ questions, much like, ‘If God is all powerful, can He create a rock too hard for him to move?’.

Some people have good questions they would like answers to. Others have questions that they think will embarrass the Christian in order to make him or her  sound stupid, and therefore, invalid. This question is one such one, usually when asked.

I did a little research on it, and meditated on this question. Some of the articles on the internet were founded upon wrong doctrine. For example, one article, obviously written by a Christian, came to the conclusion that God doesn’t heal amputees because miracles ceased once the work of the apostles ended (after they died). The author of that article claimed that Jesus healed many people while on earth including amputees. His healing was to give evidence of who He was while on earth. While I don’t disagree with that statement, that brings up other questions. Then what do you do with the people who are miraculously healed? Who healed them? Why would God only heal during a certain time period and not always? Didn’t He heal people throughout the Old Testament times, as well as the New Testament days?

Magazines that deal with foreign missions tell of some of the wonderful things God is doing in other lands. People are coming to Christ because God gives them dreams and visions. People are healed of all kinds of sickness and disease. Miracles happen. I will say that I don’t personally believe they happen in America the way they do in other countries. Perhaps we have so many things here that we aren’t really in faith for what God can do. There are probably a lot of reasons, and I don’t want to get into them in this post. So, let’s get back to the original question asked by the Atheist; Why doesn’t God heal amputees?

That statement makes a claim. It says that God doesn’t heal amputees. Do we really know that God doesn’t heal amputees? Have we combed the world and found every person who was an amputee that wasn’t healed by God? Could it be that God has healed amputees, but we aren’t aware of when or where it happened, or who was healed as an amputee? We would pretty much have to have all-knowledge to know for sure that God doesn’t heal amputees.

As I did research on the Internet, the best info I found was from http://www.answersingenesis.org on this subject. They took the question and re-articulated the argument. It is basically an argument against God due to the existence of evil. It goes like this:

  1. An omnipotent God would heal amputees.
  2. Amputees are not healed.
  3. Therefore, an omnipotent God does not exist

It is an argument that basically says that if God is all powerful, then we wouldn’t have flaws in our lives, or other people wouldn’t have flaws either . It essentially says that a perfect God can’t have an imperfect world. It fails to take into consideration that the world is in a fallen state due to our sin (see Genesis 3). The philosophy says that the flaws that we see, like any sickness or disease, disprove God. Or, if God is really all powerful, then He must not be loving.

A person who comes to the conclusion that God doesn’t exist because of the flaws, doesn’t understand the nature of God. He or she doesn’t understand what happened in Genesis 3, after Eve listened to the Serpent and obeyed the devil instead of God. Perhaps a person is angry with God because of a loss of a loved one, and hasn’t understood God before the tragedy occurred. If a person doesn’t have a good foundation on the character of God before tragedy hits, that person will try to understand God through the eyes of the tragedy instead of what the Bible says on who God is and what He is like (and why He does what He does or doesn’t do).

So, in conclusion, we don’t know for sure that God doesn’t heal amputees. He is sovereign and did miracles in the past, and is still doing them today. Not everyone gets healed. Some die. Others are miraculously healed. We see that in the Bible as well. For God to be God, it doesn’t require Him to heal everyone, everywhere. As long as we are on this earth, under its curse, we will all die, even though we may have had a miraculous healing or experience. The Bible says that it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this, the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). After Jesus comes back and the Restoration takes place, there will be no more sickness or amputees. There will be no more death for people who know God and who have repented of their sins and trusted in Jesus for their atonement for sin. But for now, we are living in an earth that is under the curse, in bodies that are affected by the curse. God has the power to heal, save and deliver. I hardly leave a response, but after reading a few of the comments on this page Question Asked by Atheists: Why Doesn’t God Heal Amputees? Apologetic Musings. I do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be simply me or does it give the impression like a few of the comments appear like they are written by brain dead visitors? 😛 And, if you are posting on additional sites, I would like to follow anything fresh you have to post. Could you post a list of the complete urls of your social networking pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?

    Thanks for the suggestions. I will try my best to post everything clearly. I can only see what I post from my angle, and if it doesn’t appear clear to you, please send me a message on it. I have seen where other people cannot even see the page because of their anti-virus program. I am not a computer tech and can’t solve a lot of those kinds of problems, but I will try my best to work with what I have. Also, I have added some widgets that might be helpful to you. Hopefully, they are working ok. Will also try to improve the page with other helpful features, such as ‘Blogs I follow’. Let me know if you have trouble accessing these features.

    There was a very real perception that bi-racial was much worse for the white than it was for the person of color. The liberal culture screamed racism when there is a very reasonable explanation for this reality::::
    In this white punishment known as the United States the person of color has already adopted the disfavors/temptations intended for another race. But by associating/mating with a person of color the white is newly adopting the disfavors of another culture.
    And this is the reason why people of color are not welcome in the United States. The gods control everything:::The perception they want to create, the thoughts they want you to have.
    People of color can’t recover from absorbing the temptations from two cultures. And why they become more and more like so many blacks in America:::Veterans at absorbing the temptations of two cultures.
    To further illustrate this is why California’s educational system/funding was ranked #1 when California was white:::Education being the basis of the affluent economic system. Now even public higher education has become unaffordable.

    The gods placed us all into our own corners of the globe. As such for thousands of years we spent time and reproduced with out own kind.
    This is why mobilty/travel, biracial unions/offspring and partaking of other cultures is a sin::::
    Each has it’s own elements of disfavor, and by experiencing other cultures you are being exposed to these disfavors, which if people may adopt will make their state even worse than prior.
    The United States has been considered a “melting pot” where rejects from around the world were sent when kicked out of their motherland.
    Remember, this concept of cultural diversity is an element of the liberal platform the gods used to promote societal decay, revealed on the map with the “beast” that is the SanFranciscoBayArea and the spread of social deterioration that spread to the rest of the country and eventually to the entire globe.

    As with some things in this life “less is more”. Sex is one of those things. They used the liberal age to promote casual “free” sex intentionally::Combined with “women’s lib” and their initiation into the “trenches” of the workplace people experineced a mass masculinization of their females.
    The gods use sex as temptation. This is why the most disfavored among us are preoccupied with it. While some may feel being well-endowed is a sign of favor the truth is just the opposite. And often the result is misogyny, a belittling of the favored gender, and stagnation of the people as a whole.
    Less is more. When young women experience passing thoughts which say you’re doing something wrong instead of fighting or dismissing the thought you should heed the warning. Sadly in today’s world too many experience prolonged periods of promiscuity in their lives, whereas if married by 15 like throughout human history this disfavor was avoided.
    Don’t forget:::It is children who ascend into heaven, and the absence of sexual activity is one reason. Their general innocence is another, which should help you see the destructive nature of adult life in today’s society.

    Ronald Reagan spent the communist block into submission with defense buildup, and in the process increased the National debt from $1 trillion in 1980 to $6 trillion when he left office.
    W charged both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to the national debt, honest numbers to come.
    The gods used W to initiate the “Great Recession” with deliberate legislation/regulation changes, allowing the sub-prime fiasco and corporate irresponsibility/criminal behavior which led to the multi-trillion dollar stimulous package, pocketted by Republican friends and donors::::$5 trillion charged to the National credit card.
    This corruption is one element of evil in the party of good. War mongering is another.
    Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t::::With the Democrats you subscribe to social decay via liberlism, which WILL lead to the Apocalypse. Republicans are being used by the gods to bankrupt the United States, ultimately motivating people to the point of “desperation prayer” once anarchy presides::::Punishment designed to correct your behavior.

    god won’t heal amputees because they deserve it.
    They deserve it.
    In a former life they were sick monsters who thought they were “earning” by hurting others, perhaps Italian shit like the filth who did the legwork setting up WorldWarII (revenge on enemies, ex:5th c. German invasion of dying Roman Empire. The gods had a real reason behind this.)

      The ‘gods’ that you speak of are all subject to the only one true living God. “I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God;
      I equip you, though you do not know me, that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me;
      I am the Lord, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:5,6 (ESV)

      God is not a fatalistic God. He never had a beginning, and will always be sovereign and in existence. Everything is subject to Him, and will give account to Him alone. The only control that the ‘gods’ you talk about in your comment have, is whatever power we give them. Every president, king, ruler, authority, etc. will give account to God. He alone causes nations to rise and fall. Man will fail. But God will prevail. In the end, the only thing that will last will be related to the question that will be before us in eternity. The question will be “What did you do with my Son?” If we reject the Son of God, we will pay the ultimate price in eternity. If we respond to the Son, then He will make all our wrongdoings right, as He took them upon Himself when He paid the ultimate price for our sin, around 2000 years ago. We only get one chance in this life. “It is appointed unto man to die once, and after this the judgment” Hebrews 9:27. What will you do with Jesus Christ? Will you accept Him as the One who paid for your sins, or will you reject Him?
